L&T bags Rs 1,300 cr Cairn India contracts

The engineering and construction major Larsen and Toubro (L&T) has bagged two major infrastructure contracts worth Rs 1,300 crore from Cairn India.

MUMBAI: The engineering and construction major Larsen and Toubro (L&T) has bagged two major infrastructure contracts worth Rs 1,300 crore from Cairn India. The scope of the work covers development of infrastructure facilities for oil production near Barmer in Rajasthan. The construction project is scheduled to be completed by June 2009.

As per the contract, L&T has to construct 18 well pad structures, civil and electromechanical work base at Mangala and Raageshwari fields, offsite infrastructure facilities, high voltage power line and telecom network. The Mangala processing facility will cover 400 acres at Thar desert in Rajasthan.

The construction team will have to move six million cubic metres of rock and soil to prepare the site for development. The main access road to the Mangala site has already been constructed.

Cairn Energy India has drilled more than 140 wells and has made more than 20 discoveries in Rajasthan. Cairn has a resource base of 3.6 billion barrels of oil equivalent in place. The company has right to develop Mangala, Aishwarya, Saraswati and Raageshwari fields.
