Larsen & Toubro (L&T), India’s largest engineering and construction company, said it has got a Rs 200-crore order from UAE real estate developer Nakheel, to build a residential project in Dubai.

MUMBAI: Larsen & Toubro (L&T), India’s largest engineering and construction company, said it has got a Rs 200-crore order from UAE real estate developer Nakheel, to build a residential project in Dubai.

To be built by L&T’s construction division, the project signals the Mumbai-based engineering company’s growing interest in the Middle East construction market. The project includes building 31 luxury villas and associated infrastructure facilities at the upmarket Jumeirah Islands in Dubai.

The construction is scheduled to be completed in 548 days. This is L&T’s third project from Nakheel; previous projects include building Middle Bridges on the trunk of the Palm Jumeirah Island Development and construction of the Mogul Gardens project.

L&T also said it has filed 80 new patent applications last year, taking the total applications filed so far to 247. The company’s electrical and electronics division has filed the patent applications on innovations made on a variety of switchgear products.

Once the patents are granted, L&T will be given 20 years of monopoly rights. The grant of patent will confer ownership and exclusive right to use, manufacture or reproduce products thus making the creation a valuable asset.
