India becomes 2nd largest casting producer

India has pushed US and Japan to third place, which were producing 4.3 million tonnes of castings annually.

COIMBATORE: India has become the second largest producer of castings, next only to China by producing 7.443 million tonnes of castings in 2009.

According to a release from C R Swaminathan, former Chairman of Indian Institute of Foundrymen and who owns a foundry in Coimbatore, the figure of production by volume was known from the World Casting Census for 2009.
