NEW DELHI: Electrical equipment makers body IEEMA today sought government help in extending the dictat on import of electrical equipment for the 4,000 MW ultra mega power projects, to the transmission and distribution (T&D) segment.

"The generation sector accounts for about 28 per cent of the turnover of total power sector and the transmission and distribution account for the majority 72 per cent of turnover.

"We would look forward to the government's help and support in extending this dictat to the transmission and distribution sector also," Indian Electrical and Electronics Manufacturers Association (IEEMA) Vice President Vishnu Agarwal said in a statement.

Under the new standard bidding norms for the power projects, including UMPPs, the government has made it mandatory for the electricity generation companies to source equipment from domestic manufacturers.
