Gujarat government signs MoUs with CII on industrial applications

The Gujarat government today inked two agreements with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in order to promote innovation in industrial applications.

AHMEDABAD: The Gujarat government today inked two agreements with the Confederation of Indian Industry ( CII) in order to promote innovation in industrial applications.

The agreements on setting up a centre of excellence on water and encouraging doctoral research in industrial applications, respectively, were signed by Principal Secretary of Industry and Mines M Sahu on behalf of the state government and CII Executive Director (Technology) Anjan Das.

"Gujarat government in partnership with CII is launching a doctoral research fellowship (DFIR) scheme, where industry would co-sponsor 50 PhD scholars per year for undertaking research in industrial applications, for four years," Das said.

Under DFIR, around 200 PhD scholars are proposed to be co-funded over the next four years and they are likely to get annual fellowship up to Rs 6 lakh for pursuing research projects.

"PhD scholars would be co-funded by CII and state government for doing applied research in area's like water, energy efficiency and conservation in buildings, healthcare and homeland security," Das said.

"The second MoU is for setting up CII Triveni Water Institute in Gujarat, a Centre of Excellence (CoE), for capacity development on water management, techniques and technologies," said the CII executive director.

The CoE on water will adopt a holistic and integrated approach to water security, he added.
