EEPC seeks govt support to tide over US tariffs

The apex engineering exports promotion body has also asked for the inclusion of various steel and aluminium products manufactured by MSMEs in the first round of negotiations with the US for a bilateral trade agreement (BTA).

New Delhi: The Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC) has sought a special support package for exporters to tide them over the steep US tariffs, as other exporting countries have an average of 30% head start compared to India.

"The 50% tariff imposition by the US increases tariff differential with our competitors... A special support package that can absorb 15% of this differential would help us to secure our position," said Pankaj Chadha, chairman, EEPC.

The apex engineering exports promotion body has also asked for the inclusion of various steel and aluminium products manufactured by MSMEs in the first round of negotiations with the US for a bilateral trade agreement (BTA).

"The implementation of the 50% tariff under Section 232 has significantly impacted engineering exports to the US market, necessitating the inclusion of specified products in the BTA negotiation," added Chadha.
