DISA India bets big on domestic foundry sector
DISA India, a leading supplier of high technology foundry equipment is expanding capacity at its manufacturing facilities at Tumkur & Hosakote near Bangalore.
"The domestic foundry industry, which relied on manual and labour intensive techniques is increasingly opting for automated equipment due to acute labour shortage and high energy costs. We are expanding our capacity to meet the needs of our customers," said Viraj Naidu, managing director of DISA India, a leading Danish foundry equipment major.
Headquartered in Bangalore, DISA India, has been a key player in foundry and surface preparation process technology. Established in 1984, the company has set up a state-of-art manufacturing facility at Hosakote and Tumkur and an R&D centre in Bangalore to provide the latest equipment and solutions to its customers.
DISA has played a leading role in introducing semi-automatic and automatic high pressure moulding lines to the Indian foundries. "The 5000-strong foundry industry in India has immense potential. Out of this, the number of manually operated foundries currently number over 4000. However, the industry is suffering from lack of skilled labour and is thus increasingly opting for automation. DISA hopes to make high-end technology affordable by localizing equipment," Mr Naidu said.
With infusion of technology, the industry hopes to tackle the twin problems of labour shortage and high energy costs.
