Power equipment major Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd has secured a Rs 6.3 crore order from Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd to develop and supply disc insulators for its transmission lines.

NEW DELHI: Power equipment major Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd has secured a Rs 6.3 crore order from Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd to develop and supply disc insulators for its transmission lines.

PGCIL would use the insulators in its 800 kV ultra high voltage direct current (UHVDC) transmission lines to be set up from the north-east to Agra, BHEL said in a release here.

The execution of the Rs 6.3 crore order will make BHEL the only supplier in the world of 420 kN and 320 kN porcelain disc insulators for over 800 kV UHDVC application, it said.

The order envisages supply of 5,000 numbers each of 420 kN and 320 kN insulators by May 2008.

BHEL will develop the insulators at its Electro Porcelain Division in Bangalore, in association with its Corporate Research and Development division at Hyderabad.

The interconnection would bring surplus power from the north-eastern region to power deficit states in the northern region, it said.
