BHEL bags Rs 2,665 cr contract from Visa Power

Public sector power equipment giant Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has secured a Rs 2,665-crore order from Visa Power Ltd (VPL).

BANGALORE: Public sector power equipment giant Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has secured a Rs 2,665-crore order from Visa Power Ltd (VPL), an independent power producer, for setting up of a 1,200 MW (2x600 mw) thermal power plant in Chhattisgarh.

The VPL's coal-based thermal power project is coming at Raigarh district of Chattisgarh, BHEL said in a statement here on Tuesday.

Significantly, BHEL secured its highest-ever orders from Private Power Utilities in the fiscal 2009-10.

Out of the total orders of 16,489 MW for Power Plant Equipment received by BHEL during the year, the orders received from IPPs alone accounted for 14,689 MW.

This constituted nearly 90 per cent of the total orders booked by BHEL's power sector.
