Astra Microwave wins Rs 1,380-lakh order from Space Dept

The order, for supply, installation and commissioning of remote unmanned automatic remote weather stations in 500 locations across India is scheduled to be commissioned before May 2009.

HYDERABAD: Astra Microwave Products Limited, provider of mirowave wireless technologies for use in defence, space and telecommunications, today said it has received a Rs 1,380-lakh order from Antrix Corporation Limited, a wing of the Centre's Department of Space.

The order, for supply, installation and commissioning of remote unmanned automatic remote weather stations in 500 locations across India is scheduled to be commissioned before May 2009, an Astra Microwave release said here.

The weather stations will feed live data via satellite to the Indian Space Research Organisation's central servers on a 24x7 basis, the release added.

Earlier, the company had bagged the Indian Meteorological Department's Rs 2,550 lakh order for automatic weather stations.

"With our focus markets of defense space and telecommunications set for rapid growth, we believe we are uniquely positioned in scale and capability to meet the requirements of this niche, but potentially large market," Astra Microwave Managing Director B Malla Reddy said.

The commercial arm of India's Department of Space -- Antrix -- markets products and services related to space exploration to global customers, the release said.
