Alstom bags Rs 182-crore contract from Power Grid

NEW DELHI: Alstom T&D India and Alstom Grid UK Limited have won a 22.75 million euro (Rs 182 crore) contract from state-run Power Grid Corporation to supply and refurbish High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) converter transformers.

"These transformers will strengthen the 1,000 MW HVDC station at Bhadrawati in Maharashtra, which interconnects and moves surplus power from West India to South India," Alstom said in a statement.

The turnkey contract includes designing, engineering, manufacturing, refurbishing, erection and commissioning of HVDC converter transformers.

These transformers will be manufactured at Alstom's facilities in Vadodara, India, and Stafford, the UK.

Under the new contract, Alstom's technology - HVDC converter transformers - will replace Bhadrawati's old transformers, and extend the life of the existing substation, the statement added.

This strengthens the transmission link with the southern region, and ensures reliable power supply between the Western and the Southern grid.
