Building material manufacturer HIL (formerly Hyderabad Industries Ltd) today kick-started a nationwide employability initiative for construction artisans.

HYDERABAD: Building material manufacturer HIL (formerly Hyderabad Industries Ltd) today kick-started a nationwide employability initiative for construction artisans.

The company has launched the initiative, 'Tarraki Ki Chhaon-Mein', in association with Andhra Pradesh-based NGO Shramika Educational Society under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.

To begin with, HIL announced the roll out of its pilot project, enrolling 25 students from rural Andhra Pradesh for a 45-day course which commenced today.

"This project is aimed at bridging the gap of non- availability of skilled manpower in India. We would like to replicate this in another 10 different regions in the country this year where we have our plants to ensure that we are able to help these artisans to have a sustainable livelihood as we can place them within the organisational network," HIL Managing Director Abhaya Shankar told reporters.

The project will train and build a talent pool of masons, carpenters, electricians and fitters with an objective to create employment opportunities for the rural and economically weaker section of the society.
