Bengaluru preferred Asian office location for tech companies

The report, ‘Top Locations in Asia: Technology sector’, enlists the city’s socio-economic strengths and talent pool among factors that have given it the No.1 spot

Southern metropolis Bengaluru has emerged ahead of Singapore and Shenzhen as the most preferred destination in Asia for tech companies and startups to set up office, a recent report by real estate advisors Colliers International says.

The report, ‘Top Locations in Asia: Technology sector’, enlists the city’s socio-economic strengths and talent pool among factors that have given it the No.1 spot. This is Colliers International’s first report for the region’s tech sector.

Colliers’ conducted the study across 16 cities in developed and emerging markets across Asia and ranks Singapore and the Chinese city of Shenzhen as No.2 and 3, respectively. Bengaluru scores 68% in the ranking and comes first overall. Hyderabad and Mumbai are the other two Indian cities that have made it to the top 10.

“It gets the natural benefit from a wide and deeply experienced talent pool. The city has the largest number of higher education institutions across India relative to its population, with an employability ratio of 24% for the IT sector,” said Joe Verghese, managing director of Colliers International India.

The report says Bengaluru has the largest stock of Grade A office space in Asia after Tokyo, low employer costs (reflecting moderate staff costs and office rents), and is in the top 10 inexpensive cities with respect to cost of living.
