Afcons, Ircon JV bags Rs 453-crore contract in Bangladesh

The project involves doubling of Dhaka-Chittagong railway corridor which is considered to be the backbone of Bangladesh railway infrastructure.

MUMBAI: Afcons Infrastructure, along with its joint venture partner Ircon, a public sector unit of the Ministry of Railways, has bagged Rs 453 crore contract in Bangladesh for constructing a railway bridge with approach lines.

"Afcons Infrastructure, a Shapoorji Pallonji Group company, in a joint venture with Indian Railways PSU Ircon has signed a contract agreement with Bangladesh government for constructing a railway bridge with approach rail lines," the company said in a statement.

The scope of the Rs 453 crore project involves doubling of Dhaka-Chittagong railway corridor which is considered to be the backbone of Bangladesh railway infrastructure. The project is expected to be completed in 30 months, it said.

"Afcons explores new initiatives and businesses in areas of infrastructure development and looks for alliances through joint venture partnerships. This has reaped benefits in terms of delivering projects successfully," the release said.

The company has executed several projects overseas and has received repeat orders showing its ability to work in multicultural environments and with diverse sets of clients, it said.
