Raman demands increase in fertiliser share to Chhattisgarh

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh has demanded an augmentation in the supply of fertilisers to the state, from the Centre following a three-fold increase in rice production in the last five years.

RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh has demanded an augmentation in the supply of fertilisers to the state, from the Centre following a three-fold increase in rice production in the last five years, official sources said on Friday.

In separate letters to the Union Fertiliser and Chemical Minister Ram Vilas Paswan and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, Singh apprised them of deficient fertiliser share to the state in accordance with the increased paddy production, which has touched 60-lakh tonne mark here, they said.

Chhattisgarh is facing acute shortage of super phosphate and the allotment of other categories of fertilisers are also insufficient, Singh said.

Pulses and oil seed production have gone up and paddy production has risen to 60 lakh tonnes from from 23 lakh tonnes in the last five years, he said adding the allotment quota of fertilisers should be increased on this count.

About 80 pc population in Chhattisgarh is dependent on agriculture, with paddy being main crop of the tribal state.
