ONGC considering to set up urea manufacturing unit in Tripura

ONGC is planning to set up a urea manufacturing unit in Tripura, where it has made gas discoveries, RPN Singh told Parliament on Thursday.

NEW DELHI: State-run Oil & Natural Gas Corporation Ltd ( ONGC) is planning to set up a urea manufacturing unit in Tripura, where it has made gas discoveries, Minister of State for Petroleum & Natural Gas RPN Singh told Parliament on Thursday.

"ONGC is considering setting up a urea manufacturing unit in the state of Tripura for early monetization of the new gas discovery from Khubal field subject to techno-commercial viability," an oil ministry statement said quoting Singh.

ONGC plans to rope in a fertilizer manufacturer to set up the plant as it has no experience in urea manufacturing. "The feasibility is to be carried out based on a suitable site, in and around Khubal gas field, to be identified in consultation with the government of Tripura," he said.

Once the partnership is formalized, the company will take about 44-48 months to implement the project, he said.
