GNFC gets Centre nod for use of gas-based fuel
The Centre has approved Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertiliser Corporation's (GNFC) proposal for feedstock conversion of FO/LSHS urea units to natural gas (NG).
The listed public sector unit has been using fuel oil (FO) and low sulphur high stock (LSHS) as fuel to produce urea. The Centre's decision is aimed at encouraging non-gas based fertiliser units to convert to gas-based ones in a bid to achieve energy efficiency.
Talking to PTI, GNFC Managing Director Guruprasad Mohapatra said "the (conversion) project will be implemented on `lump sum turn key (LSTK) basis and completed within a period of 32 months."
The letter of intent (LoI) for the project has been issued to Larsen & Toubro, he said.
GNFC, along with Gujarat State Fertiliser Company (GSFC) and Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Ltd (GACL) — both state government units — has identified three projects to be implemented in a joint venture, Mohapatra said.
