Fire at Orchid Chemicals' Chennai unit; no casualty

Orchid Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals today said a fire broke out at its Chennai-based research subsidiary's facility but no one was injured in the accident.

NEW DELHI: Orchid Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals today said a fire broke out at its Chennai-based research subsidiary's facility but no one was injured in the accident.

In a filing to the BSE, the firm said that the fire broke out in a portion of the new drug discovery laboratories of its research arm, Orchid Research Laboratories at Sholinganallur in Chennai.

"The fire was brought under control by the Tamil Nadu Fire Services squad assisted by the Orchid safety team. There was damage to office and laboratory equipment, furniture and building interiors. However, there were no injuries to anyone," it added.

Shares of Orchid Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals closed at Rs 174.75 on the BSE in late afternoon trade, down 3.87 per cent from its previous close.
