Bengaluru to get polymer design lab

BENGALURU: Union Chemicals & Fertilizer Minister Ananth Kumar on Wednesday announced an advanced polymer design and development research laboratory cum high learning centre for Bengaluru at the Invest Karnataka meet.

The proposed laboratory will be built at an investment of Rs 87 crore, and will have modern equipment and machinery. The State Government will allot the required land for the centre and al so share 50 % of the project cost.

The Centre will act as a multi-functional one-step facility with specialisa tion in product development in Polymer sector. It will also conduct R&D, product tests and evaluations and commer cialization of technology.

The Centre would address various global issues such as requirement of lightweight components, nanocomposites, high performance coatings, flame retardant polymers, increased use of plastic in agriculture and construction, and tailor-made polymer solution for various industries.
