FACT signs MoU with Malabar cements

Fertilisers and Chemicals of Travancore (FACT) and state-owned Malabar Cements Ltd on Saturday signed an MoU for the sale of gypsum.

KOCHI: State-owned Fertilisers and Chemicals of Travancore (FACT) and state-owned Malabar Cements Ltd on Saturday signed an MoU for the sale of gypsum.

As per the agreement, Malabar Cements will purchase a minimum of 15,000 tonnes of gypsum during the next three months from FACT.

The MoU was signed by Dr George Sleeba, chairman and Managing Director of FACT and K Sreenivas, Managing Director of Malabar Cements, at a function here on Saturday.

Gypsum is a byproduct obtained during the production of Phosporic Acid and a raw material used in the production of cement.

Currently, FACT is having a stock of about 60 lakh tonnes of gypsum at Udyogmandal and Ambalamedu units of the company. FACT is planning to sign simiar MoUs with a few other cement companies also in the near future for the sale of gypsum.
