Cement workers, managements reach wage settlement

Cement workers and managements have reached a wage settlement of the order of Rs 168 crore benefitting 1.25 lakh employees with individuals getting an increase of up to Rs 3,500 a month.

NEW DELHI: Cement workers and managements have reached a wage settlement of the order of Rs 168 crore benefitting 1.25 lakh employees with individuals getting an increase of up to Rs 3,500 a month.

The agreement was reached between cement workers unions and manufacturers associations in the presence of Chief Labour Commissioner here yesterday.

While the workers will get a raise of Rs 2,100 for 48 months, an additional Rs 1,400 for 24 months will accrue to them. The settlement is valid for a period of four years from April 1, 2010. Twenty-three cement companies were involved in the national settlement.

N Srinivasan and N A Viswanathan signed on behalf of the Manufacturers Association while the employees were represented by G Sanjeeva Reddy and N Nanjappan of the INTUC, Hari Shankar Sharma (BMS), R A Mittal (HMS), H Mahadevan and G Obulesu (AITUC), Dipankar Mukherjee (CITU) and Rathina Sabapathy (LPF).
