Cement price will come down in TN: Minister
The cement price in Tamil Nadu would come down soon since moves were afoot to import 23 lakh tonnes of cement by the State government, Higher Education Minister K Ponmudi said on Friday.
The Centre had permitted Tamil Nadu Cement Corporation to import cement and global tenders had been issued to import 18 lakh tonnes of cement, he said. Besides, the five lakh tonnes of cement would be imported through Minerals and Metals Trading Corporation, Ponmudi, also in charge of mines and minerals rpt minerals, said in a statement here.
Chief Minister M Karunanidhi had written letters to the Centre seeking relaxation of rules for cement import by Tamil Nadu government, which had been accepted by the Centre, he added.
