ACC to invest Rs 1100-cr in east
ACC on Thursday said the company is looking to build capacities in the east.
Speaking to newspersons at a meeting held in Kolkata, Mr Budhraja said: “The company plans to enhance the manufacturing capacity of the Bargarh plant in Orissa by 1.3 million tonne per annum to 2.5 million tonne per annum of cement. Total project outlay is estimated at Rs 535 crore.”
With the Rs 300-crore expansion exercise of the Chaibasa cement unit in Jharkhand just complete, the company is busy increasing the capacity of the Sindri unit in Jharkhand to 1 million tonne per annum. The company plans to incur a sum of Rs 70-80 crore at the Sindri plant.
Closer home, ACC is looking to enhance annual capacity at its Damodar cement works in West Bengal. The unit now produces 1 million tonnes of cement only.
The company is also open to put up nearly 50 ready mixed concrete plants in the eastern region entailing an investment of Rs 500 crore by 2010. Expected to come up in all the majors towns and cities, each ready-mix concrete unit will require an investment of Rs 10 crore.
“Plans to launch different variants of cement to meet our customers requirements are also on the anvil. The first variant of cement will be unveiled in November 2007,” Mr Budhraja said.
ACC’s enjoys a market share of 17-18 % in the eastern region. Incidentally, the region contributes about 25 % towards its total turnover. The company supplies high quality ACC super composite cement to east India from its plants at Bargarh (Orissa), Damodar (West Bengal), Jamul (Chhatisgarh) and Chaibasa and Sindri (Jharkhand).
On whether the company is looking for acquisitions in the east, Mr Budhraja said ACC is open to the idea provided assets are available at the right price. On a national level, it plans to increase capacity from 20 million tpa to 25 million tpa within the next two years.
