ACC to add 2 MT capacity in east by 2008

KOLKATA: Country's largest cement maker ACC Limited, now a part of the Holcim group, would ramp up the manufacturing capacity in the east up to two million tones by 2008.
ACC Business Head (East) Ramit Budhiraja told reporters that the company's board had approved a Rs 500 crore plan for expanding the capacity of Bargarh unit in Orissa, while the expansion at Chaibasa plant in Jharkhand was almost over.
Post completion of the expansion at the two plants, the capacity in the eastern region would go up to 7.3 million tonnes per annum from 5.3 million tonnes per annum.
The cement manufacturer's total capacity in the country is over 20 million tonnes per annum.
Its market share in the east is about 17-18 per cent against the national average of 12 per cent, he said.
Budhiraja said ACC has entered into an MoU with the Chhattisgarh government for acquiring two limestone blocks.
