Wockhardt to launch patented gel in India

Wockhardt plans to launch a patented silicone gel, Kelocote, for treatment of scars and keloids in India by third quarter of this year.

MUMBAI: Wockhardt plans to launch a patented silicone gel, Kelocote, for treatment of scars and keloids in India by third quarter of this year.
The company has entered into an in-licensing agreement with US-based Advanced Biotechnologies Inc to market the gel in India.
Kelocote is currently marketed in North America, Europe, Australia and South-East Asia.
"We will soon introduce a patented gel - Kelocote - to treat scars and keloids arising from accidents, burns, surgery and acne," Wockhardt Chairman Habil Khorakiwala told the BSE on Tuesday.
Kelocote is a unique silicone gel for scars as well as skin disorders such as dermatitis and varicella. It is also useful in treating keloids, which are fibrous growths formed over healed wounds.
While clinical trials on Indian patients are in progress, clinical data from various countries has turned out to be in favour of the gel, Wockhardt said.
