Wockhardt moves SC against Hyderbad hospital

Wockhardt today approached the Supreme Court with the allegation that a Hyderabad-based company has illegally and forcibly taken possession of the hospital.

NEW DELHI: Pharmaceutical and biotech firm Wockhardt today approached the Supreme Court with the allegation that a Hyderabad-based company has illegally and forcibly taken possession of the hospital by breaking the agreement between them.

The apex court issued a notice to Kamineni Hospitals Ltd on Wockhardt's allegation that the Hyderbad hospital chain owner broke the agreement before the expiry of the five-year lock-in period to take possession of the entire property.

A bench comprising justices Altamas Kabir and Cyriac Joseph sought the response of Kamineni hospitals and posted the matter for the next hearing after four weeks.

Wockhardt Hospital, a part of the Habil Khorakiwala- founded firm which has presence in over 20 countries, had entered into an agreement with Kamineni Hospital which owned land and building.

In the petition, Wockhardt claimed to have made huge investments in the form of equipment, manpower, instruments, utilities, machinery, fitting etc as per the agreement. They had a lock-in period of 5 years.
