Two Gujarat cos under lens for DEG-laden cough syrup; FDA issues alert

Two companies in Gujarat have come under the scanner for manufacturing toxic cough syrups containing Diethylene Glycol (DEG). The Food and Drugs Administration in Gujarat has issued a public alert, prohibiting the sale of certain batches of these formulations with immediate effect. The companies in question are Rednex Pharmaceuticals and Shape Pharmaceutical.

According to the FDA Gandhinagar, it received an information from from FDA, Madhya Pradesh, that the drug formulations-Respifresh TR and have been found containing Diethylene Glycol (DEG) impurity above permissible limits and are declared adulterated and Not of Standard Quality.
