Strides Arcolab has received approval from Canada's health department for selling Ondansetron injection.

MUMBAI: Drug maker Strides Arcolab has received approval from Canada's health department for selling Ondansetron injection, used for preventing nausea, in that country.

"We are delighted with our first Canadian approval for an important sterile product and for having achieved a further milestone in creating a global sterile injectable business," company's Vice Chairman and Managing Director Arun Kumar said on Wednesday.

Ondansetron injection, which is used to prevent nausea and vomiting caused by cancer chemotherapy and surgery, is licenced to an undisclosed partner in Canada and the company expects sales to commence in the fourth quarter this year, it said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange.

Ondansetron is a first submission by the company with Health Canada, a federal department responsible for helping Canadians maintain and improve their health.

Shares of the company were last trading at Rs 282, up 3.01 per cent on the BSE.
