Strides gets US approval for migraine drug

Drug maker Strides Arcolab on Monday said US health regulator Food and Drug Administration has given its nod for sale of Sumatriptan Succinate injection, used in the treatment of migraine, in the American market.

NEW DELHI: Drug maker Strides Arcolab on Monday said US health regulator Food and Drug Administration has given its nod for sale of Sumatriptan Succinate injection, used in the treatment of migraine, in the American market.

The company has got the approval of US FDA to sell Sumatriptan in the strength of 6 mg/0.5 ml in the US market, Strides Arcolab said in a statement.

According to an estimate, the total US market for the drug was USD 200 million in 2009.

The company will aunch the drug in the near future and under the a partnership with Sagent Pharmaceuticals.

Shares of Strides Arcolab today closed at Rs 389.30 on BSE, up 1.88 per cent from its previous close.
