Strides Arcolab unit gets US health regulator's nod for cancer drug

Strides Arcolab said its subsidiary has received US health regulator's approval to mkt generic topotecan hydrochloride injection, a cancer drug, in the US mkt.

NEW DELHI: Drug firm Strides Arcolab today said its subsidiary has received US health regulator's approval to market generic topotecan hydrochloride injection, a cancer drug, in the American market.

Onco Therapies Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Strides Arcolab, has received approval from US Food and Drug Administration ( USFDA) for topotecan hydrochloride injection, packaged in single dose vials, Strides Arcolab said in a statement.

According to IMS data, the US market for generic Topotecan is around $ 51 million.

Topotecan is a chemotherapy drug usually given to treat ovarian cancer, small-cell lung cancer and advanced cervical cancer, the company said.

"Topotecan is part of the oncology portfolio licensed to Pfizer for the US market and the product is available for immediate launch," Strides added.

Shares of Strides Arcolab were trading at Rs 838.20 on the BSE in late afternoon trade, up 0.66 per cent from its previous close.
