Strides Arcolab gets USFDA nod for cancer injection Cisplatin

Strides Arcolab said it has received approval from the USFDA to sell generic version of Cisplatin injection used in cancer treatment.

NEW DELHI: Drug firm Strides Arcolab today said it has received approval from the US health regulator to sell generic version of Cisplatin injection used in cancer treatment in the American market.

Onco Therapies Ltd a wholly-owned subsidiary of Strides Arcolab Ltd has received approval form the US Food and Drug Administration for Cisplatin Injection, Strides Arcolab said in a statement.

The approval is for multiple strengths of 1 mg/mL packages in 50 mL and 100 mL multiple dose vials, it added.

Citing IMS data, the company said the US market for generic Cisplatin is around USD 10 million. The drug is amongst the products in the drug shortage list of US FDA.

"Cisplatin is part of the oncology portfolio licensed to Pfizer in January 2010 for the US market and expected to be launched shortly," the company said.

A chemotherapy drug, Cisplatin is used to treat various types of cancers, including lung cancer and ovarian cancer.

Scrips of Strides Arcolab touched a 52-week high of Rs 657.40 per share in the afternoon. The shares were trading at Rs 654 apiece on the BSE in late afternoon trade, up 3.37 per cent from its previous close.
