Services, pharma to be key export drivers: Hoda
The services and pharma sectors are expected to be the key export drivers in the next few years, a Planning Commission Member has said.
"IT services are now India's No 1 exporter, with over $ 31 billion exports so far in FY 2007. The overall revenue of the IT software and services sector were about $ 40 billion last year and are poised to be around $ 60 billion in 2009-10," Planning Commission Member, Industries, Anwarul Hoda told the media on the sidelines of a conference here today.
The services sector is projected to double its exports to $ 60 billion by 2009-10 while pharma shipments are expected to touch $ 28 billion from the present level of $ 6 billion, Hoda said.
The liberalisation of the telecommunications sector contributed considerably to exports of IT software and services with IT services exports growing by about 30 per cent per annum, Hoda said.
Exports from the automobile and auto parts industry are also on a high-growth track, he said.
