NEW DELHI: Ranbaxy has launched generic versions of Astrazenecas anti-ulcer drug Prilosec 40 mg in the US. Following a settlement in April, Astrazeneca made Ranbaxy the authorized generics partner, which means that the Indian company can sell its generic drugs for 180 days before Prilosecs patent expires.

However, the US-based company Watson Pharma, being the first generic company to successfully challenge Prilosecs patent, will also have exclusive marketing rights during the 180 day period.

According to IMS figures, Prilosec 40 mg has annual sales of $204 million in the US, a Ranbaxy release said. Ranbaxys shares at the BSE closed at Rs 494.20, up 2.6% from Fridays close.
