Ranbaxy enters into Chyawanprash segment
Ranbaxy Laboratories has entered into the Chyawanprash segment by launching Chyawan Active, a sugar-free product.
Ranbaxy’s Chyawan Active is an ayurvedic proprietary medicine developed by the company’s Herbal Drug Research team.
It is estimated that in India there are more than 40 million diabetic patients. While traditional chyawanprash contains 50-60 per cent added sugar, Ranbaxy’s Chyawan Active does not have any added sugar, thereby making it a healthy, low calorie alternative for the existing consumers of chyawanprash.
The Chyawanprash segment has a market size of Rs 250 crore and saw a growth of more than l5 per cent in value and volume terms in 2006-07. Innovations are likely to drive the market, which still has a low market penetration of about 4 per cent.
“With life-style related diseases on the rise, the product offers an excellent nutritional format for the entire family, especially to the health and calorie conscious individuals, diabetics, obese and overweight people,” said Malvinder Mohan Singh, CEO and managing director of Ranbaxy.
On Friday, Ranbaxy shares ended down 0.74 per cent at Rs 395.35 on BSE.
