Neuland Labs to focus on contract research
Hyderabad-based mid-sized pharma player Neuland Labs has raised $30 million for capital expenditure on contract research facilities and its foray into clinical research.
The Rs 202-crore bulk drug player is eyeing opportunities in contract research and manufacturing and, as a strategy, has skipped generics play. Most pharma players in the API and bulk drugs space typically move on to generics and formulation segments.
Talking to ET, Neuland chairman and managing director D R Rao says, We are not looking at generics business for now. This positioning gives us an advantage with clients looking for contract research and manufacturing as we will not be competing with them.
The company is expecting that bulk of its revenues, going forward, would come from contract research and manufacturing. It has set up a chemistry-based contract research facility at an investment of Rs 60 crore complete with 80 scientists, 18 of whom are PhDs.
