National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority exempts price controls for 3 insulins of Wockhardt

NPPA has exempted drug maker Wockhardt’s three insulin products from price controls for five years, starting January 8, 2015.

MUMBAI: India’s drug pricing watchdog National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority ( NPPA) has exempted drug maker Wockhardt’s three insulin products from price controls for five years, starting January 8, 2015.

The products -- insulin human injection, isophane insulin human suspension, and a 70% isophane insulin human suspension and 30% insulin human injection -- are classified as “new drug” and thus qualify for non-application of the Drug (Price Control) Order 2013.

A November 20 order by the NPPA said Wockhardt will inform the authority of the maximum retail price that it will charge on the products.

The price monitoring body of the government said it considered the decision of an expert committee that was constituted to study the issue. Wockhardt had applied to the NPPA for non-application of the price control provisions.
