Mid-sized pharma company Indoco Remedies plans to start manufacturing novel drugs under the novel drug delivery system (NDDS) platform.

KOLKATA: Mid-sized pharma company Indoco Remedies plans to start manufacturing novel drugs under the novel drug delivery system (NDDS) platform. The Rs 350-crore company has identified anti-diabetes, cardio-vascular and anti-histamine segments for production of these nextgeneration medicines.

Indoco has developed a Rs 25-crore R&D facility in Navi Mumbai where it intends to take up NDDS research. It is also in the process of setting up a separate R&D team for this.

Indoco Remedies CFO and director (finance) Sundeep Bambolkar said the company expects to commercialise the first NDDS product in calendar 2008. “The NDDS venture is at a concept stage. The novel drugs will provide nearly twice the margins than other generic drugs,” Mr Bambolkar said. Indoco plans to enter the big league of Ranbaxy, Dr Reddy’s, Zydus Cadila and Sun Pharma who are all building proprietary prescription business under NDDS.
