How do Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines fare against the variant found in India?
1/5
Protection and efficacy
According to a study conducted by the Pasteur Institute in France, the vaccine developed by Pfizer is slightly less effective but still is able to offer protection against the coronavirus variant found in India.
2/5
Pfizer
The study was conducted on 28 healthcare workers, 16 of whom were given both the doses of the Pfizer vaccine, while 12 received one dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine. The results showed that those who received the Pfizer doses saw a reduction in their antibodies against the variant from India, but were still protected.
3/5
AstraZeneca
With AstraZeneca, those who received the dose showed lesser antibodies neutralising the variant. The Pfizer dose also provided 3-6 times lesser antibodies against the UK variant to those who have already been infected.
