GVK Bio unveils chemistry research centre in Hyderabad

The state-of-the-art facility at Nacharam on the city outskirts would house 200 synthetic chemists and scientists working in the area of synthesis of reference standards, building blocks, intermediates and analogues.

HYDERABAD: GVK Biosciences Pvt Ltd, a contract research company, on Saturday inaugurated a Chemistry Research Centre here, a built-to-suit facility for Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, a US-based pharma products major, as part of a research partnership forged by the two companies last year.

The state-of-the-art facility at Nacharam on the city outskirts would house 200 synthetic chemists and scientists working in the area of synthesis of reference standards, building blocks, intermediates and analogues.

The facility was inaugurated by Dr Robert Ruffolo, President, Wyeth Research and Development, in the presence of David Hopper, the United States Consul General, Chennai.

The Chairman of GVK Group of Industries G V Krishna Reddy, Chairman of GVK Bio D S Brar and its Managing Director G V Sanjay Reddy were present on the occasion.

Later, addressing a press conference, Brar and Sanjay Reddy said under the collaborative research agreement, signed in January last year, Wyeth would spend 50 million US dollar over the next five years for designing synthetic routes for new molecules, carrying out the synthesis and characterisation of target molecules.
