NEW DELHI: India on Thursday removed the export restrictions on Paracetamol active pharmaceutical ingredients (API), almost three months after imposing them in the wake of the Covid-19 outbreak.

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) amended the export policy for Paracetamol APIs to remove the restriction making its export “free with immediate effect”, it said.

DGFT had restricted the exports of 26 bulk drugs and their formulations on March 3 to ensure there is no shortage of drugs in India but had freed 24 of them in April.

India exported Paracetamol worth $72.52 million in April-January 2019-20 and $5.41 billion of formulations made from Paracetamol in the period.
