Glenmark gets USFDA nod for anti-epileptic drug

Glenmark Pharmaceuticals today said its US-based arm has received approval from the US health regulator to market generic Lamictal tablets.

NEW DELHI: Glenmark Pharmaceuticals today said its US-based arm has received approval from the US health regulator to market generic Lamictal tablets, an anti- epileptic drug, in the American market.

The company's arm, Glenmark Generics Inc has received final approval from United States Food and Drug Administration for Lamotrigine tablets,a generic version of GlaxoSmithKline's Lamictal, Glenmark Pharma said in a statement.

The company has received the approval for Lamotrigine in strengths of 25, 100, 150, and 200 mg, it added.

According to IMS Health sales data for the 12 month period ended December, 2011, Lamotrigine tablets garnered annual sales of USD 62 million.

Lamotrigine is an anti-epileptic drug indicated for epilepsy and bipolar disorder, the company said.

Shares of Glenmark Pharma today closed at Rs 332.80 on the BSE, down 2.12 per cent from its previous close.
