MUMBAI: Drug maker Glenmark Pharmaceuticals on Wednesday said it has received approval from the UK regulatory agency for its semi-solid (ointments and creams) product manufacturing plant in Himachal Pradesh.

The plant located in Baddi has been approved for Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) by the UK's Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).

The green signal from the agency would enable Glenmark to supply creams and ointments in Europe in the near future.

"The approval from MHRA, UK will provide further impetus to our current expansion efforts in the European region. Glenmark has been constantly upgrading its manufacturing facilities to efficiently meet the anticipated demands of the global markets and we look forward to the US FDA approval for Baddi as the next milestone," company's CEO and MD Glenn Saldanha was quoted in a statement filed with the Bombay Stock Exchange.

MHRA is the UK government agency which ensures safety of medicines and medical devices.

Currently, the Baddi plant supplies the firm's Indian requirements and has produced batches for filing in the US and Europe. It had already received GMP approval from TPD, Canada.
