Covaxin shelf life now extended up to 12 months

The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has approved the extension of shelf life of Covaxin up to 12 months from the date of manufacture, vaccine maker Bharat Biotech said on Wednesday.

"The CDSCO has approved the extension of shelf life of Covaxin up to 12 months, from the date of manufacture. This approval of shelf life extension is based on the availability of additional stability data, which was submitted to CDSCO," Bharat Biotech said in a tweet.

The company also said it has shared the information on the shelf life extension of its Covid-19 vaccine to its "stakeholders."

The vaccine maker was initially given permission for sale and distribution of Covaxin with a shelf life of six months when stored at two to eight degrees Celsius. Later approval was given for extending the shelf life to nine months after it submitted updated accelerated and real-time stability data.
