CHENNAI: Pharmaceutical major Cadila Healthcare Ltd has roped in South Indian filmstar Simran to endorse its sugar substitute brand Sugar Free.

Announcing this here last evening, Anand Deo, senior Vice-President, consumer division, Cadila Healthcare Ltd told reporters that the star was chosen since she was a "fitness icon."

"There has to be synergy between the celebrity and the brand for the benefit of both and therefore the actor was chosen," he said.

Accordingly, Simran would feature in Sugar Free advertisements targeted at the southern states, in the four respective languages, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.

Deo said that the sugar substitute market in India was Rs 70 crore, claiming Sugar Free was the brand leader with a total share of 80 per cent.
