Cadila gets initial US nod for cholesterol tablets

Cadila Healthcare Ltd said on Thursday it had obtained an initial approval from the US Food and Drug Administration to sell tablets of cholesterol fighter pravastatin sodium in the United States.

MUMBAI: Cadila Healthcare Ltd said on Thursday it had obtained an initial approval from the US Food and Drug Administration to sell tablets of cholesterol fighter pravastatin sodium in the United States.

The tentative approval was given for strengths of 10 mg, 20 mg, 40 mg and 80 mg, the company informed the Bombay Stock Exchange.

The company would market the drug through its US subsidiary Zydus Pharmaceuticals (USA) Inc, following patent expiry, it added.

The drug, which had branded sales of approximately $1.8 billion in the US market during 2005, is a lipid lowering agent.

Cadila shares rose 2 per cent to Rs 480 in a firm Mumbai market.
