NEW DELHI: The government on Friday cleared the proposal to merge Ghaziabad-based Central Indian Pharmacopoeia Laboratory Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The merger, approved by the Cabinet on Friday, would facilitate smooth transition from the existing set up to an autonomous structure, Information and Broadcasting Minister P R Dasmunsi told the media.

After the merger, IPC would perform the requisite specialised jobs as per established international practices.

The decision would lead to transfer of staff, assets and liabilities including buildings and all other existing infrastructure belonging to the CIPL to the control of IPC, he said.

The Cabinet also decided to upgrade the post of Director of CIPL to Secretary-cum-Scientific Director of IPC. This will help IPC in positioning itself with its international counterparts.
