Budget 2011: OPPI for physician samples be exempted from central excise duty

NEW DELHI: Organisation of Pharmaceutical Producers of India ( OPPI) has demanded physician samples be exempted from central excise duty as in line with exemption from levy of VAT.

It has also asked the government to consider similar provisions for exemption under CGST and GST for supply of physician samples going forward.

Physician Samples are not commercial packs and are given free to doctors. All packs given to doctors are marked as “Physician sample, not for sale”. Further, physician samples supplied free of cost are exempted from levy of VAT.
