COVID-19 vaccine: Australia recognises Bharat Biotech's Covaxin for travel purposes
The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) in Australia has added Bharat Biotech's Covid-19 vaccine Covaxin to its list of Covid-19 vaccines not registered in Australia but used widely internationally for the purpose of establishing a traveller's vaccination status.

Along with Covaxin, China's Sinopharm's BBIBP-CorV too has been added to the list. This recognition, the TGA says, is for travellers aged 12 and over who have been vaccinated with Covaxin, and those 18 to 60 who have been vaccinated with BBIBP-CorV.

TGA says in recent weeks it got additional information and data demonstrating the fact that the aforementioned vaccines provide protection and reduce transmission of Covid-19 by incoming travellers to others in Australia.

With this, Covaxin & Covishield of India and Coronavac & BBIBP-CorV of China, both have been recognised by Australia, which houses a significant number of international students, skilled & non-skilled workers from both the Asian countries.

Covaxin is India's first indigenous Covid-19 vaccine developed by Bharat Biotech in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) - National Institute of Virology (NIV). So far, countries including Mauritius, Oman, Philippines, Nepal, Mexico, Iran, Sri Lanka, Greece, Estonia & Zimbabwe have recognised Covaxin.
