Aurobindo Pharma enters biologics contract manufacturing with Rs 1,200-crore Telangana facility
Aurobindo Pharma has launched TheraNym, a major biologics manufacturing plant in Telangana. This facility will produce biologic medicines for global markets. US pharma giant MSD is the first major client. The plant signifies Aurobindo's expansion ...
The facility, located at Borapatla in Sangareddy district near Hyderabad, marks Aurobindo's push beyond its traditional generics business into the fast-growing biologics and contract development and manufacturing (CDMO) segment in India. The facility is expected to create more than 1,500 jobs.
Aurobindo said the TheraNym facility has been built to support global biologics supply chains and is equipped with 15 KL bioreactors, and downstream processing suites, and has been designed to serve both domestic and export markets, subject to regulatory approvals and customer requirements.
"TheraNym adds meaningful capacity and capability to the MSD supply chain, helping enable compliant and reliable supply of products to the patients who need them most," Dave Maraldo, Executive Vice President and President, MSD Manufacturing Division said.
As global demand for monoclonal antibodies and other biologic therapies rises, contract manufacturing has emerged as a rapidly growing opportunity for Indian pharmaceutical companies. For Aurobindo, the facility marks a deeper push into biologics. TheraNym was incorporated in September 2022 as a wholly owned subsidiary to house the company's biologics contract manufacturing operations.
