Aurigene tech enters collaboration with Forest Labs

The company has also entered into a discovery collaboration with biotechnology company Merck Serono International

Bangalore:Bangalore-based discovery services Aurigene Discovery Technologies has entered into a collaboration with US-based pharma company Forest Laboratories Holdings for small molecule drug discovery for an obesity and metabolic disorders target. Under the terms of the agreement, Aurigene will undertake and fund discovery and optimisation of lead compounds, with close participation by Forest���s scientists. Forest will fund all subsequent drug development and commercialisation activities. It will also have full ownership of the compounds developed under the collaboration with unencumbered worldwide rights.

���Aurigene has been rapidly developing its small molecule discovery capabilities through a number of ongoing programs at various stages of development. This agreement further strengthens our risk sharing model of drug discovery partnerships,��� said CSN Murthy, CEO of Aurigene.

The company has also entered into a discovery collaboration with biotechnology company Merck Serono International. The two companies will identify small molecule drugs for the treatment of autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis. Under this research agreement, Aurigene will receive research funding for the lead generation and optimisation according to a pre-defined research plan.

Aurigene focuses on collaborative drug discovery and discovery services with pharmaceutical and biotech companies. The company is engaged in a number of discovery collaborations and also provides discovery chemistry and biology services to companies in the US and Europe.
